YPSO is California’s oldest youth orchestra, founded in 1936. We are an advanced-level youth orchestra comprised of approximately 100 student members, ranging in ages from 11 to 21, and hailing from 5 Bay Area counties.

Our mission is to guide young musicians to acheive excellence within an orchestral setting. We encourage young people to become exemplary musicians and young musicians to become exemplary people.


During the 2023-24 season, YPSO has

  • 4 Season Subscription concerts

  • A performance at Davies Symphony Hall as part of the Bay Area Youth Orchestra Festival

  • A Summer Tour to Japan

  • Other musical activities including Chamber Music performances and Community Partnerships


Japan Tour:

  • YPSO will perform 3 concerts in the cities of Sakai and Tokyo

  • YPSO will to meet students in Sakai, Berkeley’s sister city, and perform on stage with young Japanese musicians, fostering cultural exchange and lifelong connections.

  • Students will learn about Japan, including visits to historical sites and other cultural experiences.


YOUR DONATIONS WILL:

  • Provide scholarships for students

  • Enable us to uphold the high standards of musical excellence in our season concerts

  • Support our tour to Japan, helping defray costs such as

    • Concert halls rentals

    • Rehearsals and collaboration projects with student musicians in Japan

    • Travel expenses for our students
