Welcome!
Dear YPSO Family, Friends, and Community,
2022 Rehearsal at FCCO with Maestro Ramadanoff
Composers of the pieces in YPSO Winter 2022 Concert - (L-R: Adolphus Hailstork, Dmitri Shostakovich, Jennifer Higdon)
While the orchestra took a brief pause mid-season in January of 2022 due to safety precautions from Covid, we are back and ready for action!
Read all about YPSO in the news!
This concert, which is situated in a timely manner, between Black History Month and Women’s History Month, delves into more modern composers and some very current themes. As an orchestra community, I think it is important for us to reflect - and to act - on furthering inclusivity. We are honored to be exploring the music and heritage of two living American composers - Adolphus Hailstork and Jennifer Higdon - and their themes of overcoming. In it we can see our individual struggles to overcome and how to work together to promote a better world
I think that lessons we have learned in 2021, and are still learning, are about taking care of each other, what it means to return as a music community, and quite literally playing together again as a team to achieve unity.
I am so impressed and inspired by the work our students have been doing, and I hope you’ll feel the same.
I look forward to an amazing 2021-22 season topped off with a long-awaited Summer Tour to Europe this June.
